The Palacio de la Ópera continues unstoppable with its comprehensive reform and maintenance plan for the postmodernist building that it has managed since 1988. A project that has involved an investment of more than one million euros in the last three years. The latest refurbishment works are focused on the dressing rooms, which will already be prepared for the next shows that the Palace will host. It is a comprehensive reform project that will give way to a type of modern and functional dressing room, very different from the classic concept that houses any show venue. In addition, the seats in the Chamber are currently being upholstered and will be ready for when the activity resumes.
But these have not been the only works that have been carried out in the cultural building. Since 2017 there have been important changes in the main auditorium, such as the renovation of all the seats, changes in the lighting system and the comprehensive renovation of floors and walls. Likewise, for four years an important project has been developed to improve the ventilation system in order to completely mitigate radon gas inside, whose leaks are measured periodically and, according to studies carried out by the Laboratory for Analysis of Radiations (RAR) of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), have always been found at permitted levels. Another important change has to do with the air conditioning system of the Opera Palace, which was changed a few months ago.
In the last two years, there have been many works to fine-tune the building, from the elevation of the stair railings, to the installation of a control system on the access doors to the dressing rooms or the implementation of a new and modern alarm system, including the comprehensive cleaning of the Palace’s façade, which was carried out in 2019. The car park is another of the spaces that has been worked on during the past year, with the installation of a comprehensive management system that considerably improved the interior organization of the vehicles.
Commitment to culture
The Palacio de la Ópera finalizes the programming for the last semester of 2021, for which it has already closed numerous contracts with local and national promoters. In this way, the involvement of the Palacio de la Ópera and its commitment to the culture of A Coruña are once again evident.
Behind the improvement works, there are also months of intense work to adapt the Palace to the new health requirements imposed by the pandemic. In fact, the manager of the Palacio de la Ópera has implemented measures to help and support a safe and responsible culture so that events can be held at the facilities with all the security guarantees. The building has a very demanding contingency plan that covers all aspects referred to in the hygienic-sanitary regulations for the prevention of COVID-19.
